People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has accused South Korean boy band BTS of supporting animal cruelty with their exclusive McDonald's 'BTS Meal' that was released in Malaysia last week

"Look at what an activist in Malaysia sent us! BTS, don't let your fans down. Stop promoting dead chickens!" wrote PETA Asia on their Facebook page on Monday, 31 May.

The animal rights organisation shared a photo purportedly of a BTS fan showing her disappointment on a placard.

Famous worldwide for using controversial methods to promote their messages, PETA Asia unreservedly said the new BTS Meal at McDonald's includes chicken nuggets that are "made from the flesh of tortured birds".

"Chickens are not nuggets, but rather living, feeling beings," they said.

PETA Asia claims that the chicken nuggets in BTS Meals "causes chickens to suffer and die, all for a fleeting taste"

On their website, the organisation went on to condemn the South Korean boy band for collaborating with McDonald's.

"It's clear BTS doesn't care about chickens who suffer and have their throats slit for McNuggets in the BTS Meal," they wrote.

PETA Asia argued that chickens deserve better and that they are probably the most abused animals on the planet. They, instead, encouraged humans to start practising veganism.

"Whenever you see chicken on a menu, remember the animal who suffered a miserable existence and died a violent, painful death. No animal wants to be killed, and since eating meat is unnecessary, raising and killing chickens for food is animal abuse," they said.

"If you don't want to contribute to this suffering, please go vegan today."

The 'BTS Meal' comes with 10 pieces of Chicken McNuggets, a Coke, Medium Fries, and two exclusive sauces.

The post blew up like dynamite among Malaysians, especially BTS fans β€” also known as ARMYs β€” who were not amused with the organisation's overreaching accusations

"PETA Asia, chicken nuggets [have been] on [McDonald's] menu for years now. BTS collaborates with McDonald's and you just realise now that you need to call their attention? And why BTS? Why not the fast food chain?" said a Facebook user.

"Maybe you need to consult a specialist. Your brain isn't working properly."

Another netizen said, "I'm a vegan but it's obvious that BTS is just promoting McDonald's and not 'dead chickens'. If you were really an ARMY, you'd respect BTS and other people's way of eating."

"Did Bangtan (BTS) ever tell you guys to stop being vegan? No right? SMH."

A Malaysian ARMY said, "Every single fan of BTS knows for a fact that they eat meat like there's no tomorrow. LMAO."

"I would understand this argument if they were a fully vegan band promoting a vegan lifestyle, but they don't. Beyond pathetic."

Malaysian ARMYs rushed to get their hands on the limited-edition meals as soon as they were released last week:
