PN To Aid Lorry Driver In Fatal Container Crash After Bail Denied For Flashing "V" Sign

PAS lawmaker Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said Perikatan Nasional (PN) will assist the lorry driver involved in the fatal container crash, who was denied bail on Monday, 18 November
Takiyuddin announced this during his speech in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, 19 November, highlighting the high number of individuals being held in remand prisons while awaiting trial.
The former law minister said the 51-year-old lorry driver, Marhizan Johari, pleaded not guilty to a charge of dangerous driving and causing the death of a 21-year-old woman. The incident occurred when a container detached from his vehicle and crushed her car last week.
He noted that deputy public prosecutor Zulfadzly Hassan requested the court to deny Marhizan bail after he flashed the peace sign when being brought to court.
"He is a lorry driver who makes a modest income. He was denied bail. Who will support his family now?
"We, PN, will offer assistance to the driver's family," he said.

The lorry driver from Kangar, Perlis, could face up to 10 years' imprisonment, a RM50,000 fine, and a five-year suspension of his driver's licence if convicted of causing the death of Lee Zi Rou in Bukit Mertajam, Penang on 13 November.
The prosecution team requested Magistrate Harith Mazlan to deny Marhizan bail, arguing that his peace sign gesture while being escorted into the court indicated a lack of remorse, reported FMT.
The court subsequently denied bail and scheduled 24 January 2024 to receive Puspakom's crash reports, along with medical and post-mortem reports.
