MBSA: Pork Can Only Be Sold In Designated Areas And Indoor Markets
The issue arose after a recent TikTok video showed a vendor openly selling fried pork at a night market in Setia Alam.
The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has issued a RM300 fine to a vendor for selling fried pork at a night market in Setia Alam, clarifying that pork can only be sold in designated areas and indoor markets
The incident, which sparked concerns after a TikTok video showed the vendor selling pork openly, was investigated following complaints that it took place in a market frequented by Muslim vendors and visitors.
The 30-second video posted by @indahnurrahman, showed people lining up at a vendor selling fried pork at the night market.
"Selling pork openly at the Setia Alam night market, where both Muslim vendors and visitors are present, is not allowed," she stated.
The Shah Alam City Council responded to the incident and provided clarifications to the public
MBSA corporate and public relations head Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said that selling pork is not permitted in open areas, especially at night markets, reported Sinar Harian.
He also said MBSA has fined the vendor RM300 and warned them not to trade at the market.
Investigations revealed that the vendor was unlicensed and operating in an area predominantly occupied by Malay vendors.
Additionally, Mohd Azhar explained that vendors are only permitted to sell pork in designated areas and indoor markets.
