Another M’sian Arrested At Indonesian Airport With Nearly 1kg Meth & 1,000 Ecstasy Pills

Another Malaysian has been arrested at an Indonesian airport after authorities discovered nearly 1kg of methamphetamine and more than 1,000 ecstasy pills concealed beneath a corset he was wearing

According to Harian Metro, the suspect has only been identified by the initials DI and is a 22-year-old man.

He was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo carrying 990g of methamphetamine and four packages containing 1,089 ecstasy pills, authorities said.

A photo published by Jakarta Globe shows officers removing the orange and blue packets believed to be drugs from beneath the corset he was wearing.

DI allegedly told investigators that he agreed to work as a courier for an international drug syndicate because he was struggling financially and was in debt.

"The suspect tried to conceal the narcotics under the corset he was wearing to avoid inspection. However, the attempt was foiled," Juanda Naval Air Base commander Colonel Henoch Nasairus Virzawan said during a press conference.

The seized drugs were estimated to be worth 2.79 billion rupiah (about RM715,000), and authorities said the seizure prevented the substances from reaching an estimated 6,584 users

The suspect and the confiscated drugs have since been handed over to the Sidoarjo municipal police for further investigations into the international drug trafficking syndicate believed to be behind the operation.

If convicted, the suspect faces a prison sentence of between five and 20 years, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.

The arrest comes less than a week after a Malaysian pilot was detained at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 70,000 ecstasy pills into the country.

Following his arrest, Indonesian customs authorities released CCTV footage showing him walking through the airport with two suitcases at the airport before officers discovered the drugs and arrested him.

Meanwhile, Malaysian police said the suspect had allegedly collected the narcotics from an apartment in Ampang before flying to Jakarta.
