A mysterious loud boom heard across Sepanggar and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah yesterday night, May 19, has been linked to a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) fighter jet

According to Berita Harian, the RMAF F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet reportedly caused the loud boom during an emergency landing.

The military aircraft safely touched down at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) at 7.47pm following a technical malfunction, specifically a left engine flame-out.

Ground teams immediately taxied the aircraft to Terminal Two

Engineers were then spotted examining the fuselage under heavy floodlights.

The loud boom had sparked confusion among the public, with some sharing their experiences on social media.

RMAF has not issued an official statement yet, but the jet remains stationed at the airport under close monitoring.
