The police are looking for a Perodua Myvi driver who allegedly hit an 11-year-old boy riding a bicycle and fled the scene
According to Harian Metro, the incident took place on Jalan Taman Puchong Indah, Puchong at 7pm yesterday, 1 October.
Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Supt Azman Shari'at said the child was stopping at the junction before the Myvi driver lost control of their vehicle and skidded.
A 19-second video that has gone viral shows members of the public trying to chase after the driver after they knocked over the child — but to no avail.
A man behind the camera can be heard telling another pursuer to stop chasing because he has seen his face.
Meanwhile, another video shows a group of passers-by surrounding the boy to check on his condition
Azman said the boy was rushed to Serdang Hospital after suffering head injuries.
"The victim is still receiving treatment and is in stable condition," he said in a statement today, 2 October.
"As of now, the driver of the vehicle has not made a report. Only a witness who saw the incident has filed a police report."
Azman said the police are currently tracking down the owner of the Myvi which has the number plate BPG9793
The Selangor JSPT chief said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
If convicted, the suspect can face up to five years' jail and a RM15,000 fine.
