A Malaysia-registered car trying to smuggle cigarettes into Singapore was caught and taught a lesson by the island nation's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA)
In a TikTok video posted by the government body responsible for securing Singapore's borders, its officers could be seen taking apart a Hyundai sedan to reveal hundreds of contraband cigarette packs hidden in various parts of the car.
"On 12 June 2023, at Woodlands Checkpoint, ICA officers profiled a Malaysia-registered car for enhanced checks," said the authority.

They found cigarette packs hidden not only under the bonnet, but also inside the front and back bumpers, in the door panels, and under the seats.
ICA said their checks uncovered 222 cartons, 2,710 packets, and 35 sticks of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
The case has been referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
According to the ICA website, in 2022 alone, ICA successfully foiled 35,000 attempts to smuggle significant consignments of contraband items and illicit drugs into the country via land, air, and sea checkpoints.
