Woohoo! National Shuttler Cheah Liek Hou Wins Malaysia's 1st Gold At Paris Paralympics

This is also his second gold medal at the Games, following his first win at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

National shuttler Cheah Liek Hou has won Malaysia's first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, defending his SU5 (upper body impairment) title from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

Cheah easily overpowered Indonesia's Suryo Nugroho 21-13, 21-15 in the final at La Chapelle Arena in a match that lasted 41 minutes today, 3 September.

After defeating Suryo, Cheah celebrated by hugging his coach, Nova Armada, and proudly waving the Jalur Gemilang around the venue.

The 36-year-old began his Paris 2024 campaign with a convincing win against Poland's Mroz Bartlomiej on Thursday, 29 August

He continued his impressive form with a straight-set victory over France's Meril Loquette on Friday and topped Group A by defeating Suryo in their earlier group-stage match.

Yesterday, Cheah cruised to the final after beating Indonesia's Dheva Anrimusthi 21-17, 21-17 in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, national para-athlete Eddy Bernard clinched a bronze medal in the men's 100m T44 (physical impairment) sprint final:
