[VIDEO] Here's The Replay That Shows Why Azizulhasni Awang Was Disqualified In Keirin
Datuk Azizulhasni Awang won silver in the event in Tokyo 2020.
National track cyclist Datuk Azizulhasni Awang has been disqualified from the men's keirin event at the Paris Olympics today, 10 August, after cycling ahead of the pace-setter, a motorised bike
Azizulhasni was competing in Heat 1 of the event against five other riders: Australia's Matthew Glaetzer, the Netherlands' Jeffrey Hoogland, Japan's Kaiya Ota, Suriname's Jair Tjon En Fa, and France's Rayan Helal.
Before the pace-setter could exist the track in the third lap, Azizulhasni surged ahead of it.
The race was momentarily paused while officials reviewed the situation. After a brief deliberation, it was announced that Azizulhasni had been disqualified.
It is understood that an appeal has been filed, reported FMT.
In the event's live broadcast, the 36-year-old rider was seen shaking his head upon hearing the starting pistol, which signalled the pause in the race.
The commentator remarked, "This is maybe the reason we are getting a replay here. We can see now Awang did pass the motorbike before it was off the track."

What is the rule of keirin?
Keirin is a sport that tests riders' endurance and speed. Competitors cycle behind a motorised pace-setter at an increasing speed before the bike exits the track after the third lap. At this point, riders sprint to the finish line.
Cycling ahead of the pacer-setter before it exits the track results in disqualification.
Glaetzer won Heat 1 of the race in 9.876 seconds
Meanwhile, another national racer, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, finished third in Heat 5 of the same event.
He will compete in the repechages round after this.
