With the Movement Control Order (MCO) being extended, the situation has worsened for the already struggling chicken rice stalls, nasi lemak vendors, and other hawker stall operators
Since most Malaysians are opting to cook at home or order food delivery, the truth is that it's tough for small local hawkers to make ends meet, especially those who are not on any food delivery platforms.
With less customers, they have to work longer hours. In fact, one chicken rice seller shared how he's been working from 7am to 11pm, just in the hopes of getting 10 customers a day.

Maybank is helping those affected during these tough times with their platform initiative
Called Sama-Sama Lokal, this new platform was specifically built to connect struggling hawkers with potential customers, in the hopes of increasing their online visibility and driving traffic to them.
Through this, Maybank urges all Malaysians to support our local communities and be by their side, as they have been with us throughout the years. In these difficult times, it's important to do what we can to help out those whose incomes have been affected.

Here's how you can order hawker food via Sama-Sama Lokal:
Support Lokal Hawker
– Browse through the list of hawkers, food courts, etc. available on the platform. Key details such as location, dishes, price, and contact number will be listed.
– Once you've made your choice, place an order by calling or sending a WhatsApp (depending on the hawker's preferred method) directly to your chosen food outlet.
– Maybank's local delivery partners will deliver your order to you, or you can also opt to pick it up yourself.

Plus, Maybank is even covering delivery charges for hawker food orders!
If the distance between your delivery address and the hawker stall you're ordering from is within 10km, delivery is free for selected locations. This means that you can enjoy your favourite hawker food as if you purchased it directly from the stall, without any additional charges.
The bank is continuously adding more merchants nationwide as we speak, to help as many hawkers as possible, especially since the MCO has been extended.
