An elderly couple in China has been evicted from their home by their own son and daughter-in-law, igniting widespread outrage on mainland social media

Jin and his wife, both in their 80s, had been living in their flat since the 1990s when it was allocated to the couple by the university where Jin worked.

Following an operation a few years ago, Jin's son and daughter-in-law began pressuring him to transfer the property to their son. "The flat would go to my son and grandson in the end, so I did not think they would do anything terrible to me before I died," Jin told reporters.

The value of this ownership transfer amounted to a substantial 1.05 million yuan (approximately RM697,000). However, Jin's son didn't pay for anything.

"The ownership went straight to my grandson," Jin added. At the time, he believed that he and his wife would continue to live in the flat, and their grandson would inherit it when they passed away.

As the flat does not have a lift, Jin and his wife decided to temporarily lease a property on a lower floor when he was in poor health. Meanwhile, their flat was rented out.

Last year, Jin's son announced that he would be selling the flat to buy a villa for himself. Shocked at his son's decision, Jin pleaded for him to reconsider but was allegedly met with verbal abuse.

As the tenant's lease had ended, Jin and his wife attempted to move back into their home, only to find that the locks had been changed. That night, with nowhere else to go, the couple slept on the cold floor outside their flat.

Furthermore, all the rental income from the flat had gone straight to Jin's son, with the elderly couple not seeing a penny.

"Your grandson says it's his flat, so you do not have the right to use it," said Jin's son

Now homeless, the couple has no choice but to move into a guest house. They have sought legal advice in an attempt to get their home back.

News of the family dispute has sparked widespread outrage in China, with many expressing sympathy for the elderly couple and condemning the son's actions.
