AI Could Make Future Books & Films Feel The Same, Study Warns
While AI can boost creativity by up to 10%, it comes at a great cost to originality.
A study has warned that books and films could start to feel similar if creatives adopt artificial intelligence (AI)
The research, published in Science Advances, studied 300 volunteers who were assigned as writers.
"Our goal was to study to what extent and how generative AI might help humans with creativity," University College London's Anil Doshi told AFP, according to Malay Mail.
Doshi co-authored the study with Oliver Hauser from the University of Exeter.

300 volunteers were picked for the study. They weren't professional writers and were evaluated by 600 human reviewers
A standard psychology test was used to evaluate their creative abilities. The test asked the volunteers to provide 10 significantly unique words.
The volunteers were then randomly divided into three groups.
All groups were tasked to write an eight-sentence story on one of the following topics: an adventure on the open seas, an adventure in the jungle, or an adventure on another planet.
Group one received no AI help, group two was given a three-sentence story idea, while group three was given up to five story ideas that were generated by ChatGPT.
The study found that AI boosts creativity by up to 10% and a story's enjoyability by 22%, but it also makes them sound and feel the same
The authors noted that AI helps with plot twists and structure. For writers who were initially tested as the least creative, this helped level the playing field.
However, the novelty of the stories decreased as nearly all of them sounded similar. The study warned that relying on AI creates a "social dilemma" and can be harmful in the long run.
The study also cautioned that relying too much on AI for writing could diminish the development of writing skills.
The authors said that people need to inject their own voice into their projects while understanding where and when to introduce AI into their workflow to maximise benefits.
