Malaysian badminton legend Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei met global K-pop superstar Jackson Wang at his Magic Man concert –and it's the crossover we never thought we needed
In an Instagram post published yesterday, 18 December, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei celebrated meeting Jackson Wang at his concert, dubbing it the reunion of two "ex-Olympians".
"Two ex-Olympians, I hold a racquet, he holds a 'sword'. I now hold baby boys, he holds microphones. One of the most talented people I have ever met," Lee said in his post.
If you didn't know, Jackson Wang was actually a fencing pro athlete before he became a K-pop idol
According to social media blog Amino, Wang hails from a family of gold medal athletes. His father, Wang Ruiji, was an Asian Games gold medalist, while his mother, Sophia Chow, was a gymnast from Shanghai.
During his teenage years, Wang trained in fencing with his father and made it into Hong Kong's official junior team as an Olympic-level Youth sabre fencer before giving up his pro athlete life to become a performer in 2011.
Netizens were surprised over the revelation that they are both ex-Olympians
"Jackson is an Olympian? Wow, I just found out," a user commented. Another user praised both of them, while one asked if Lee could invite Wang to play a singles match with him.
Meanwhile, most netizens don't know who they're more jealous of.
"Collab when?" some netizens teased the unexpected duo.
