There Was A Triple Loop Roller Coaster? Look At These Old Photos Of Sunway Lagoon

Sunway Lagoon Theme Park officially opened its doors to the public in 1992
The theme park covers 88 acres of land, almost the size of 67 football fields.
It currently has 90 attractions, including rides and activities, spread across six adventure zones — Water Park, Amusement Park, Wildlife Park, Extreme Park, Scream Park, and the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon.
But did you know that before it became a fun-filled wonderland, the entire area was actually a tin-mining wasteland?
The park was built 150 feet below ground level on what was once a massive mining site!
The construction of Sunway Lagoon started way back in 1986, and when it finally opened its doors, it became the go-to spot for thrill-seekers and families looking for a fun escape in the city.
Fast forward to 1997, and Sunway Lagoon introduced one of its most daring attractions — a Triple Loop Coaster
This wasn't just any roller coaster; it was reportedly the world's first roller coaster with three vertical loops!
According to several sites, it was originally called Dreier Looping. The ride was purchased from German showman Rudolf Barth, who had been operating it since 1984 on the German fair circuit.
When it arrived at Sunway Lagoon, the park decided to give it a bold new look by painting it bright pink.
For two years, from 1997 to 1999, this roller coaster was the park's main attraction, drawing thrill-seekers eager to experience the intense triple loops. Unfortunately, it was removed after a short run, leaving behind only memories and a few rare photos.
Some say the roller coaster was relocated multiple times to other theme parks after being sold to different companies and renamed.
While the Triple Loop Coaster may be gone, Sunway Lagoon has never stopped evolving. Did you know that its wave pool alone cost RM27 million to build?
It's also home to one of the world's largest man-made beaches, spanning 13,000 square metres of sand, where visitors can ride waves up to eight feet high!
Rides like the Tomahawk, Pirate Ship, and Zambezi River or lazy river where you can chill on a tube, have been around for a while now with some modifications over the years
Long before other rides and attractions were added to the mix, like the Vuvuzela and Bungee Jump, there were these.
Over the years, Sunway Lagoon has hosted some massive events, including Roxy Summer Splash, MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia, The Click Five concert, Backstreet Boys, and a Westlife concert, among many others
Sunway Lagoon has changed quite a fair bit since the '90s, so perhaps this was a pleasant walk through memory lane if you visited back in the day
