Woman Reminds Tourists Not To Be Dumb After Guy Breaks Bones At Nusa Penida
He was trying to do a somersault for a photo but fell off the cliff.
It goes without saying that no matter where you go, it's always safer to err on the side of caution, especially if you're in a risky position
A woman recently shared a word of advice for tourists who are travelling, after a holiday turned sour.
In a video posted on Wednesday, 7 December, TikTok user @saltyseadawg explained that she was visiting Nusa Penida, a popular tourist destination in Bali, with a group of friends.
As they arrived at the lookout point, their guide told them that a man had fallen off the cliff while trying to take a photo earlier that morning
Thinking he might have been rescued already, the user was surprised to find out that the man was still at the bottom of the cliff waiting for help.
She explained that he had fallen off the 40m-high cliff at around 9am, while they had arrived at around 10am. However, emergency services were only able to get to him at around 4pm due to the dangerous terrain.
She ended her video by reminding tourists "to be careful when in a third world country because things like this happen all the time and are never reported about".
Coconuts Bali reported that the tourist was actually trying to do a somersault, while his guide was taking the photo for him, and that's when he fell off the cliff to the beach below.
The incident was said to have taken place at around 9.30am on 21 November. According to Detik, Bali Search and Rescue Agency Chief Gede Darmada said that the team struggled to get to the victim due to the high tide, but they eventually rescued him at 3.15pm.
Thankfully, the tourist was found alive but was covered in blood and had suffered a fractured leg. He was carried on a stretcher and immediately rushed to the hospital.
In the video caption, the TikTok user aimed to spread awareness for people to "not be stupid and be safe".
She also added to be mindful that different countries have different medical and emergency services.
However, several people commented in response that this type of situation could happen anywhere — regardless of the country you're in.
So, the lesson learnt is to just avoid playing with fire when standing at the edge of a cliff.
