Ipoh's filled with old-school kopitiams with so much good food. But let's be honest, sometimes we just need a break from the heat.

The city has opened many new gems in recent years, serving good coffee, desserts, and meals. So if you need a break from sight-seeing, it's quite nice to settle down at a cafe and just relax.

We've put together a list of cafes to check out in Ipoh the next time you head there:

1. être Patisserie

Having worked in three Michelin star restaurants and pastry shops in France, chef Ann Lee decided to bring her passion for making good, quality desserts back to her hometown in Ipoh. 

This considerably new cafe is classy with a white and gold interior. It serves polished-looking desserts that will tempt any sweet tooth. Check out its croissants which are said to be the perfect balance of flaky and buttery goodness.

2. Girlie's Cafe

Girlie's Cafe is popular for its signature watermelon cake and burnt cheesecakes, especially the one made with Niko Neko's matcha.

In fact, the cafe is said to be one of the first to supply Niko Neko's products and beverages in Ipoh. It recently launched Lotus Biscoff burnt cheesecake and NGL, it looks UH-MA-ZING. 

The cafe is located in the heart of Ipoh's town, near Plan B, so you won't need to drive far if you're already walking around the area.

3. dé Cafe & Rest House

dé Cafe & Rest House is tucked away in a little alley, like a quiet nook away from the outside world. Customers particularly appreciate the cafe's ambience, which doubles up as a guest house. It's a relaxing spot after a long day of walking, for sure!

4. Seong Man 上 文

Specialising in Chinese tea, Seong Man also serves kuihs and other traditional desserts in an unpretentious manner. Some of what they offer includes tang yuen with grass jelly and sago pudding with gula Melaka.

It's a peaceful and cosy spot for a hangout. Other plus points is that it's Muslim-friendly and has vegetarian options.

5. Jln Theatre Coffee

Minimalistic and straight-forward, Jln Theatre reminds us of Niko Neko branches in KL. It also supplies Niko Neko's product range. If you're particular about your coffee, it's definitely one place worth checking out.

6. Red Mountain Sun Yin Loong

Head to this white coffee house for a breath of fresh air and afternoon tea. The cafe is located at a wood industrial factory, which explains its laidback wooden interior.

The menu includes local dishes with affordable prices which give it a mix between a modern kopitiam and a cafe.

7. STG Tea House Cafe

Located in a refurbished colonial bungalow, STG Tea House Cafe does hi-tea and other tasty dishes, such as French onion soup, pan-seared sea bass, a variety of pastas, and local meals as well. 

Definitely worth checking out for a little English afternoon tea escape.

8. Chakori

All of the food and desserts at Chakori look delish and the reviews speak for themselves. Its waffles and homemade gelato are particular favourites among its customers.

9. The Happy 8 Cafe & Retreat

Located in a heritage retreat, The Happy 8 Cafe is a charming cafe offering local meals, including vegetarian options. Their signature desserts are their durian burnt cheesecake and earl grey burnt cheesecake.

10. TWT Cafe

Unlike many modern, industrial cafes today, TWT Cafe exudes an olden days ambience that instantly makes you feel at home. It serves scallop mussels risotto, pork stew, Lotus biscoff mille crepe, among other delicious meals and desserts.

12. Purple Moon Lover

This pastel-themed bungalow was converted into a brightly-lit cafe and bakery at Taman Canning. It serves a mix of Western and Japanese cuisine. The chocolate puffs are said to be particularly tasty.

13. 藤原豆花店 Fujiwara Tofa Shop

Paying homage to the Manga series, Initial D, this Japanese-themed cafe, known for its tofu desserts, is covered with street racing posters. It even has a replica of the car model right outside.  

Last year, the store announced that it will be opening another outlet in Subang Jaya.
