16 Hot Pot Places In Klang Valley That Are Just As Good As Haidilao Without The Long Queue

The famous Haidilao is undoubtedly the hottest hot pot restaurant right now, but let's face it - who has time to wait around for hours just to get a table, right?

For days when you're craving hot pot, here are some alternative options in Klang Valley that are just as good as Haidilao without the intimidating long queue:

1. Suki-Ya @ Multiple locations (pork-free)

Suki-Ya's "eat all you can sukiyaki & shabu shabu" provides diners with an unlimited supply of beef, lamb and chicken slices to be dipped in your choice of soup bases - the traditional shabu shabu, sukiyaki (sweetened soy sauce), miso or kimchi. If you're looking for a little variety, the restaurant's 'salad bar' offers an assortment of vegetables and sushi besides the usual steamboat offerings.

Price: RM34.80++  for Lunch (11.00am to 5.00pm) and RM41.80++ for Dinner (5.00pm to 10.00pm), additional RM3.00 on weekends and public holidays. 50% off for children between 5 to 12 years old; children below 5 years dine for free. Each dining party is allocated 120 minutes, RM5.00 will be charged for each additional 15-minute block.

2. PoPo Hot Pot @ SS 2, Petaling Jaya

A hot pot-only offshoot of PoPop Steamboat Cafe in Kepong, the relatively new SS 2 outlet aims to provide a relaxed environment for diners to take their time savouring meat slices as well as assorted seafood percolating in their signature mala broth.

3. Kuro Japanese Steamboat @ Desa Park City

For a set price, customers can take their pick from Kurobuta Pork, Australian Beef, Australian Lamb, and assorted Seafood, as well as unlimited refills from the buffet bar. Choose from six different broths - Kuro Broth, Spicy Kuro Broth, Shabu-Shabu, Sukiyaki, Japanese Curry, and their mild but flavourful Mala (additional charges apply) - and make sure to leave some tummy space for Häagen-Dazs ice cream at the end of your meal!  

Price: RM54.90 for lunch, RM64 for dinner. You have 120 minutes to eat as much as you want. Wagyu buffet sets are also available at RM128 (Australian Wagyu) and RM338 (Japanese Wagyu).

4. Chun-Ciou Hot Pot @ Old Klang Road

Unlike most hot pot buffets, where ingredients are laid out in the open, Chun-Ciou lets you order the ingredients in your desired quantity at your table. Choose from six soup bases (we love the Mala, Tonkotsu, and Lake Salt broths!) and enjoy an amazing selection of seafood and premium meats (we recommend the abalone slices, lobster salad balls, pork belly, and mochi balls), as well as unlimited desserts and sauces.

Do note that hot pot buffet is only available in the evening.

Weekdays: RM80++ (Dinner), RM70++ (Supper)
Weekends and Public Holidays: RM85++ (Dinner), RM75++ (Supper)

5. Hong Kong Hot Pot @ Bangsar

As its name suggests, stepping into the restaurant is a blast from the past thanks to the classic Cantopop music that's always playing in the background. Try their signature Sichuan Spicy broth and pork bone soup base, and make sure to order their famous HK beancurd rolls and freshly-made prawn paste.

6. Red Inn Hot Pot @ Persiaran Tropicana, PJ

Fancy a karaoke session while you're having hot pot? Red Inn's got you covered! The restaurant also serves Iberico pork slices and scallops, as well as five broths to choose from - signature sake, pork bone, tomato, superior clam, and mala (for an additional RM20).

7. Fei Fan Hot Pot @ SS 15 and Mont Kiara

Fei Fan's specialty meatballs are homemade, as are their springy udon noodles, which are best enjoyed with their signature pork bone broth and Sichuan mala soup. See the menu here.

8. Xiao Fei Yang @ Multiple locations

XFY's Mongolian-style steamboat is what sets them apart from most hot pot joints, with an expansive menu of fresh ingredients that include wide range of meats - beef, pork, mutton, and even deer! - and seafood as well as assorted meat balls and fresh vegetables, complemented by your choice of soup base - herbal and/or hot and spicy.

9. FWF 凤王府 Hot Pot @ Bukit Bintang

FWF (or Feng Wang Fu in Chinese) prides itself on serving authentic Chengdu hot pot, which you can choose up to three soup bases for. It's also one of few joints that are opened 'til the wee hours of dawn, so you can count on having something warm to fill your tummies with after a wild night out!

10. Shu Xiang Lou Hot Pot & Sichuan Cuisine @ Kuala Lumpur

Modelled after the famous hot pot franchise Xiao Long Kan, this restaurant stands out among the many hot pot places in Sunway Velocity and has appeared all over social media for its unique presentation, such as serving meat slices draped over a Barbie doll.

12. Shu Guo Yin Xiang Hot Pot @ Sunway Velocity, Cheras

Following its success in Jakarta, Shu Guo Yin Xiang is now operating in two locations in Klang Valley. Their hot pot - which bears two golden dragon heads and allows for three soup bases at once - lends a sophisticated air to the meal, and diners may also get to see Face-Changing as well as tea performances if they're lucky.

Hailing from Chengdu, Chuan Chuan Xiang is famous for their lok lok-style hot pot, with over 80 types of ingredients and four soup bases to choose from.

14. Lao Sichuan Steamboat @ Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park

Regulars at Lao Sichuan claimed that you can smell their mala soup base just by walking through its doors, so you'll want to brace your tongues and tummies for this! The restaurant also serves other Sichuan dishes.

16. Chong Qing Xiang La Guo @ Kuchai Lama

Said to be one of more authentic Sichuan restaurants in KL, Chong Qing's mala soup may be oilier than what Malaysians are used to... but that's apparently the way it should be. You can also opt for their herbal soup, which goes well with their selection of fresh meats, innards, and assorted vegetables.
