Police have confirmed the arrest of four individuals over the water pollution in the Selangor River

According to The Star, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Fadzil Ahmat said the arrests were made in Gombak, Damansara, and Kelana Jaya.

The arrests came after the police opened an investigation paper on the incident. The suspects will be sent to the Selayang court to be remanded.

Early investigations showed one of the suspects registered as a tenant of the premises in Rawang where the pollution allegedly happened

"It is believed that the disposal of chemical residue through a sewage hole at the premises led to the outflow of the contaminated substance, resulting in the pollution," Fadzil said.

"Meanwhile, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man and a local man stockpiled chemical materials at the rented premises."

Air Selangor has since announced that water supply will be restored in stages in affected areas from 3pm today, 11 November

In a statement, Air Selangor confirmed that the Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, and 3, and Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plants (LRA) have resumed operations in stages at 2.30am.

"Consumers can expect to receive water supply in stages from 3pm depending on where they are located in the water supply distribution system."
