The Shah Alam Sessions Court today, 15 July, fined KK Supermart and Superstore Sdn Bhd RM60,000 for intentionally wounding the feelings of others over socks bearing the word 'Allah' in March this year
The court also fined Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, one of its suppliers, RM60,000 for conspiring to commit the offence under Section 298 of the Penal Code, reported the New Straits Times.
Both companies reportedly pled guilty to amended charges related to wounding the religious feelings of others.
Meanwhile, the court acquitted Datuk Seri Chai Kee Kan, the founder and director of the convenience store chain, and his wife Datin Seri Loh Siew Mui, after the prosecution decided not to proceed with the case
Three directors of the Batu Pahat-based supplier Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd β Soh Chin Huat, Soh Hui San, and Goh Li Huay β were also given a discharge and acquittal.
According to Malaysiakini, Judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir granted a discharge amounting to an acquittal to Chai, Loh, and the three company directors.
While the prosecution team applied for the withdrawal of charges via a discharge not amounting to an acquittal, the defence team argued that the case warranted a full acquittal.
The court agreed with the defence team, reported Malaysiakini.
