Dr Mahathir Joins Perikatan Nasional Leaders To Fight Against "Common Enemy Of Malays"
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the former chairman of Bersatu, a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, together with several Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders, have united to oppose what they describe as the "common enemy" of the Malays
Dr Mahathir claimed that under the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Malays have been gradually deprived of their rights.
This situation, he said, has prompted the leaders to join forces in championing the rights of the Malay community.
"Malays' power over 'Tanah Melayu' will disappear if nothing is done to prevent that from happening.
"We agree that we have a common enemy. We have to come together to face this common enemy.
"We have agreed to come together to ensure the Malays do not lose power... to bring about Malay unity to ensure they do not lose all their power," FMT quoted Dr Mahathir as saying in a press conference yesterday, 12 December.
Dr Mahathir was joined by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PAS vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad, former UMNO secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa, and former Pejuang deputy president Datuk Marzuki Yahya, among others.
The former Bersatu chairman also claimed that many vocal Malays were facing pressure from the government
"Threats are made that they will be charged in court as criminals, detained and fined. Because of that, many Malays feel they should come together because the problem is common to all of them.
"This is not tied to one particular [political] party alone," he said
