A Malaysian's home was destroyed by a fire, believed to have been caused by a power bank that suddenly exploded

Through several videos on TikTok, tech content creator Muhammad Zahari, fondly known as Amad, revealed that the power bank, which had been unused for a long time, suddenly exploded near his wife, setting the curtains in their master bedroom on fire.

"The 20,000 mAh power bank exploded even though it wasn't in use," he told curious TikTok users who commented on his videos.

Amad said the incident occurred at around 1.30am, and he did not have time to put out the fire as his bedroom quickly filled up with black smoke

"I managed to grab my phone and call the fire department. Thankfully, they arrived fast, and no one was injured," Amad shared.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the upper floor of his home.

Even though the firefighters arrived quickly, the flames had spread and collapsed the roof above his master bedroom and work studio, where Amad filmed videos and kept a collection of electronic devices.

"I could only watch as everything was lost," he said.

According to Sinar Harian, the damage is estimated to cost over RM20,000.

However, Amad expressed relief that the lower floor of his house and vehicles were spared.

His videos have collectively garnered close to 10 million views, with netizens pouring in to express their sympathies and well wishes.

Thanking them, he hoped that his experience could serve as a lesson to others to properly dispose of their electronic waste as they could potentially be fire hazards.
