Recently, a man took a practical joke too far when he decided to impersonate a police personnel at a police station last Sunday, 19 February

According to a Facebook post by Borneo Network, a 36-year-old man from Sarawak got himself in trouble when he entered the Tapah police station and approached the complaint counter looking to pull a prank on the officers.

Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspect entered the station around 3.20pm and was arrested minutes later.

The suspect had first introduced himself as a police officer from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) headquarters in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur, then added that he was there to arrest the complainant who was also a police personnel.

The man then pretended to go to his car to fetch some files before returning with a cake, admitting to the police that he was just kidding

It was then that a police officer warned the man of his actions and asked the man to clarify his identity..

However, Abang Zainal said the man lied again and answered that he was a policeman from the Kuching district Criminal Investigation Division (CID) instead.

Due to the uncertainty of the situation, the Tapah police officers conducted a background check and discovered  the man was neither an officer nor a member of the PDRM.

The police that chief added the man was just a member of the public whose wife runs a cake ordering business, and that he was there to deliver a cake to the complainant he threatened to arrest earlier, reported Kosmo.

The man has been remanded under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant and if convicted, could potentially spend up to two years in prison.

The Facebook post has since garnered over 2,000 likes and the suspect's "prank gone wrong" received countless mixed reactions from locals

Many users were amused over the man's actions with one commenting, "Congratulations you got yourself locked up."

One user said that the man shouldn't follow the pranks that appear on Canadian television show, Just For Laugh Gags.

"Let this be a lesson. Don't play around with jokes that can endanger your own self," advised another.
