PDRM Arrests 10 Men For Beating Up A Policeman Who Cut Queue At A Petrol Station In KL
According to Wangsa Maju deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Osman, the victim, a police constable who was on duty for Ops Rentas Khas, claimed he did not realise there was a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) waiting in line.
10 men from Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru are being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code, which covers punishment for rioting and carries two years' jail and fine, or both, if found guilty
According to Wangsa Maju deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Osman, the group of men, aged between 22 and 44, were arrested for beating up a policeman at a petrol station.
The incident happened in Sri Rampai, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning at 10.20am, 13 August, during which the victim, who is a police constable, sustained an injury to his left eyebrow.
"The victim was taken to a nearby clinic where he received five stitches to his left eyebrow," Deputy Superintendent Ahmad said when contacted by New Straits Times on Friday, 14 August.
What happened?
The police constable, who is in his 20s, was on duty for Ops Rentas Khas when his motorcycle ran low on fuel. He is said to have gone to the petrol station to fill petrol and stopped at one of the pumps.
He claims that when he manoeuvred his motorcycle into one of the pump lanes, he did not realise there was a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) waiting in line, Ahmad said in a statement on Saturday, 15 August.
The situation triggered an argument between the two and before the police constable could offer an explanation, the driver of the MPV is said to have punched him in the face several times.
Following which, several of the MPV driver's friends along with the occupants of a nearby Mercedes Benz also joined in beating up the victim before they were dispersed by members of the public.
"The victim was hit by two men from the group before others in the group broke up the fight," Ahmad said.
The 10 were arrested based on the victim's report
They were remanded for two days from 14 August to 15 August to assist in the investigation.
According to Ahmad, the investigation paper is in the final process to be completed before it can be forwarded to the office of the Deputy Prosecutor for further actions.
In the meantime, Ahmad has urged those with any information regarding the incident to contact the Case Investigating Officer, Inspector Mohamad Faiz Mohd Yassin (011-1982 3703) or Senior Investigating Officer, Assistant Superintendent Gopal Subramaniam (012-5120242) or KL Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999.
