PERHILITAN Sets Up Trap To Capture Wild Crocodile Spotted Near Mid Valley & KL Eco City
Members of the public have been advised to stay clear of the area until the crocodile is captured.
A rare and startling sighting of a 3m-long crocodile near The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley Megamall, and KL Eco City has drawn the attention of both city residents and authorities
The reptile was spotted in Sungai Klang between KL Eco City and The Gardens Mall yesterday afternoon, 20 February.
News of its sighting quickly spread, becoming the talk of the town and drawing curious onlookers to the bridge connecting the two locations.
In response, the Wildlife and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN) has taken swift action by setting up a trap to capture the crocodile
Federal Territories PERHILITAN director Ishak Muhammad has urged the public to steer clear of the area until the reptile is safely removed.
"Together with the National Wildlife Rescue Centre, we have set up a trap to capture the crocodile, which we believe has strayed from its natural habitat. The public should refrain from any activities near the river," Ishak told the New Straits Times.
Authorities have also deployed a boat to patrol the river, working alongside the Civil Defence Force to monitor the crocodile's movements
"Efforts are ongoing to monitor the area where the crocodile was last seen. Based on available videos, we suspect it is the same one recently spotted near Masjid Jamek," Ishak added.
This sighting follows a similar incident earlier this month. On 8 February, PERHILITAN was put on high alert after a viral video showed a crocodile near Masjid Jamek in the heart of the capital.
PERHILITAN director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim confirmed the sighting and announced that warning signs would be placed in the area to alert the public.
