School Gardener Charged With Murder Of Security Guard In Ipoh

A school gardener has been charged with the murder of a security guard at a primary school in Bandar Seri Botani, Ipoh

According to New Straits Times, the victim, Faizal Asri, 43, was allegedly murdered by R Ravinderan, 55, at the school between 3pm and 8pm on 13 October.

However, no plea was recorded from the defendant after the charge was read out before Magistrate S Punitha on Thursday, 19 October, at the Ipoh Magistrate's Court. 

Deputy public prosecutor Vatchira Wong Rui Fern prosecuted, while Ravinderan was represented by lawyer Hanifatinnasikha Mod Dimiyati.

The court has set 10 January next year for next mention of the case and the submission of chemical and forensic reports.

The victim was found unconscious leaning against the wall of the guard post. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

Police later arrested Ravinderan in connection with the murder and retrieved a weapon believed to be used in the crime.

If found guilty, the accused faces the death penalty, or between 30 to 40 years in jail. He may also receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
