Woman Dies 6 Hours After Undergoing Cosmetic Breast Surgery At Unlicensed Clinic
The reported cause of death was internal bleeding in the chest.
A plastic surgery clinic was shut down by health officials after illegally conducting unlicensed cosmetic surgeries in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi province, Thailand, on Wednesday, 29 March
According to Thaiger, the lawyer of the Department of Health's legal division Chatri Pinyai said that breast augmentation is considered a major operation, which requires clinics to own a certain licence for.
The clinic involved had performed a cosmetic breast surgery despite only holding a licence for minor procedures.
They also illegally promoted major surgeries via their Facebook account.
Case investigations are still underway and the Nonthaburi Provincial police station said they are working on compiling information and will present their findings on Friday, 31 March.
The woman who underwent cosmetic breast surgery at the clinic died a mere six hours after her procedure
As soon as 37-year-old Kanokwan had completed her surgery at 11pm on 23 March, she began coughing, claimed the victim's sister.
According to her sister, Kanokwan said she was suffering from back pain around midnight. Her sister then discovered Kanokwan's unconscious body at 4am and immediately called for an ambulance.
Paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Kanokwan but to no avail, as she died on her way to Bang Pa In Hospital, reported the news portal.
An autopsy revealed that the cause of her death was internal bleeding of the chest but did not confirm whether or not it was caused by the augmentation surgery.
Kanokwan's 59-year-old mother requested for a second autopsy to be carried out, believing that her daughter's death was due to the botched surgery.
The family of the victim are planning to seek THB10 million (RM1.3 million) in compensation from the clinic for the alleged part they played in her death
According to Thailand Medical News, a representative of the clinic had visited the victim's family with a lawyer to negotiate the amount to be compensated.
The clinic offered to pay the family THB100,000 (RM13,000) to help cover the victim's funeral expenses.
However, Kanokwan's mother remained unwavered in seeking larger compensation, as her daughter was the breadwinner of the family, often sending money back home.
Kanokwan worked in Dubai as a masseuse to support her two children and family in Thailand.
