9 Dating Sim Games To Play When You Just Want To Date Hot People
Like dating without the awkwardness.
In a world where fictional characters are affectionately called "my husband / wife / boo" and have a million thirst trap edits on TikTok, it's no mystery that we as a society have reached a new level of parasocial relationships with fictional characters
Which is fine. No big deal. We all do it. It's okay.
In fact, we've compiled a list of games you can play if you honestly just want to romance attractive people without ever having to leave the house.
For the sake of diversity, they'll range from shameless thirst traps to full-on games that have romance subplots.
Aight. Allons-y, Alonso!
1. Baldur's Gate 3
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, macOS, Xbox Series X/S
A turn-based Dungeons & Dragons game that has you gathering your party of companions (...lovers?) to battle through the Forgotten Realms and find a cure for the mind flayer tadpoles you've all been infected with.
Some can argue that it's actually more of a fantasy RPG with actual combat and battle strategies than a dating sim, which, okay, you're right, but with an entire ensemble of really attractive characters with complex storylines and unique personalities, one of whom is a very charming, sarcastic vampire spawn with a sultry, flirty voice, how could you play Baldur's Gate 3 and NOT romance someone?
Solid gameplay. Awesome characters. 10/10 Goldblums.
2. Love and Deepspace
Platform: Mobile
Definitely one of the more in-trend otome games out there right now, Love and Deepspace has you playing a rookie Deepspace Hunter who joins the Hunters Association and goes on missions while fighting alongside several attractive companions (this game is a thirst trap, fyi).
It does actually feature gameplay in the form of battle missions and mini games, but many are drawn to its characters and the first-person POV flirting and other, uh, intimate things that entail when you romance them.
3. Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator
Platforms: PC, macOS, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Mobile
You're a dad. They're dads. And you're all available. One could say dad's the whole point of the game.
This heartwarming visual novel game has you and your teen daughter moving to a quiet cul-de-sac where, as fate would have it, there are a lot of other hot dads around.
With dads ranging from a grumpy dad to a goth dad, from a sporty dad to an intellectual dad, this game features a charming cast, playful banter, and a lot of dad jokes that will keep you grinning.
4. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Platforms: PC, macOS, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
An isometric turn-based RPG that has you playing a Mythic Hero battling against a demon invasion that has corrupted the land. This one's heavier on the gameplay, but it's got solid (and attractive) romance options — if you're willing to put in the effort.
You can romance some of your party members, though your choices throughout the game can affect your compatibility with them. It's possible to romance someone yet not end up with them at all, so you really have to fight for your love in this game.
5. Monster Prom
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
A light-hearted indie game that encourages you to "be your worst self" and find your perfect date for prom. And because you're all monsters, your romance options are pretty interesting.
The gameplay includes getting to know your potential partners, taking personality quizzes, and navigating the highs and lows of monster high school. The game offers a single-player mode, as well as a competitive multiplayer mode that supports up to four players.
6. Mass Effect franchise
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3/4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Mobile
A sci-fi game franchise set in a future where human and alien civilisations have colonised the galaxy. You play as Commander Shepard, who is tasked with going to a human colony on Eden Prime to recover an unearthed Prothean Beacon.
What's cool about this franchise is that you can choose to import your Shepard when moving to the next game, which means your romance with another character is also brought along. You can decide to change partners, of course, and this will even be acknowledged. Depending on what floats your boat, you can choose to romance both human and alien characters.
7. Potionomics
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch
A cute indie game that has you playing Slyvia, a penniless witch who inherits her uncle's potion shop and has to keep it afloat. The gameplay involves crafting potions from scratch, negotiating with customers, and of course, romancing people.
As you rank up your relationship with certain characters, you can eventually enter a romantic relationship with them if you want to. Regardless of romancing or not, you still learn new things and unlock special bonuses by increasing your friendship level with the characters.
8. Dragon Age: Inquisition
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3/4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
A fantasy and action RPG that's part of the larger Dragon Age franchise. You play as the Inquisitor, who must stop the spreading turmoil plaguing Thedas and seal the mysterious tear in the sky that's unleashing demonic hordes upon the land.
The Dragon Age franchise has long offered a cast of romanceable characters, but Inquisition stands out for its twice as large pool of potential lovers. Granted, while you can flirt with as many characters as you please, you can only be in a relationship with one. Pursuing another relationship would require you to break it off with your previous lover.
9. Boyfriend Dungeon
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch
There's no easy way to say this, but you're dating weapons in this game. Like, actual weapons... which you can wield as you fight in this dungeon crawler dating sim.
The good news is that you're not going around kissing blades — you're romancing their human personas. During battle sequences, you can wield your weapon-babe to defeat monsters in dungeons created from your character's anxieties. Outside of the dungeon, the game switches to a visual novel, where you can date your weapon's human counterpart.
