WhatsApp users can now easily create meetings and events in groups they're in

Previously, the feature was only available for WhatsApp users within Communities.

However, following its latest update, the feature has been rolled out to all WhatsApp groups.

The feature, together with polls, will now make it easier for WhatsApp users to communicate, organise, and reach a decision faster.

Here's how to create events in WhatsApp groups in two easy steps:

STEP 1: On WhatsApp, tap on the Attachment icon and then select 'Event'

STEP 2: Fill in details like the event name, description, date, time, location, and WhatsApp call link (if it's virtual), and hit the green arrow

For events with a WhatsApp call link, you can't schedule the event for more than a year ahead.

Once the event has been created, all members in the group will be notified and can start RSVP-ing

Group members will be able to see who has RSVP-ed for the event. Also, members will be able to RSVP for an additional guest. Unfortunately, there is no way to disable the option at the moment.

The only downside of the event feature is that you cannot sync it with Google Calendar (or any calendar app you use). Also, you will receive an alert notifying you that the event is starting at the scheduled time but not earlier.

Still, the feature is useful for organisers to confirm how many individuals are attending a particular event.

The event creation feature was first released for groups within Communities. We're sort of glad it's now been rolled out for everyone in groups.
