Police have classified the stabbing of a Form 3 student at SMK Bandar Banting in Selangor as attempted murder, as students who witnessed the incident shared new details about what unfolded during recess
According to students who spoke to local media outside the school, the attack happened at about 9.30am while Form 3 students were on their recess break.
A male student told the New Straits Times that the victim had just bought bread from the school canteen and was about to sit down when she was attacked.
"The incident happened during recess for Form 3 students. The suspect stabbed her in the back and front of her body," he said.
He also claimed the suspect approached the canteen from the direction of the school's surau before the attack.
Meanwhile, a female student claimed that the suspect had previously jumped from one of the school buildings last year and was subsequently expelled.
The attack reportedly triggered panic across the school, with students scrambling to safety before teachers gathered everyone at the school field as a precaution
Earlier, the victim's father, Mohd Firuz Ibrahim, said his 15-year-old daughter suffered 14 stab wounds, mostly to her back, as well as injuries to her face, head, and left lung.
Speaking to reporters at Banting Hospital, he said his daughter was conscious and able to speak despite the severity of her injuries.
Mohd Firuz also said he does not believe his daughter was the intended target.
"I feel my daughter wasn't the target. Maybe [the suspect] wanted to target someone else, but my daughter happened to be the closest to them. Perhaps also because my daughter's build is quite large, she didn't have time to run away," he said.
He added that his daughter and the 15-year-old suspect knew each other, having been classmates last year.

She spent around half an hour there, while Kuala Langat police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi was seen inspecting the scene.
When asked about claims circulating on social media that the suspect had previously been bullied, Akmalrizal declined to comment, saying further updates would be provided later.
Some students also claimed the suspect had previously attended the school and had experienced mental health issues.
However, police have not confirmed these claims.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.
