Artist Ernest Zacharevic Reunites With Now-Grown-Up Kids In Penang Murals After 12 Years
All grown up.
Renowned Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic recently returned to Penang to restore his iconic murals and reunited with the now-grown-up children featured in the artwork
The Children on a Bicycle mural, first painted in 2012 during the George Town Festival, quickly became a symbol of Penang's street art scene and remains one of the most photographed spots in the city.
It beautifully captures the joy and freedom of childhood, resonating with both locals and tourists alike.
Ernest met up with the kid featured in his Boy on a Motorcycle mural, which also debuted at the George Town Festival 12 years ago.
The mural depicts a young boy sitting on a real, vintage motorcycle, which is mounted against the wall and integrated into the artwork.
In late September, Ernest began restoring three of his most famous murals: Children on a Bicycle on Armenian Street, Boy on a Chair on Cannon Street, and Boy on a Motorcycle on Ah Quee Street
Commissioned by the Penang state government, the restoration was part of an ongoing effort to preserve these artworks, which have become integral to Penang's cultural identity.
