Hidden in the hills of Cameron Highlands is a quaint locale that'll whisk you away into calmness and serenity

Located within an area that has been dubbed 'The Valley of Eternal Spring', this Tudor-styled country hotel, aptly named The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands, overlooks Sultan Abu Bakar Lake.

Originally debuting as a result of undiscovered land within the hills of Pahang, The Lakehouse was the result of a construction project by retired British Colonel Standley J Foster, who spent four years to complete it.

Kicking off operations in 1970, its colonial charm as a jewel atop the highlands have made it a towering attraction above the majestic and historical area.

Situated just a short distance away from from the towns of Tanah Rata and Ringlet, the destination is a mere three-hour drive for those coming from Kuala Lumpur.

However, the locale also offers transportation services for international travellers or local Malaysians who are coming from other parts of the country, which include private taxis or minivan options. Accommodating up to 19 rooms with luxurious sights that overlook the mountainous region, each suite maintains its rustic charm and antiquity while indulging patrons in luscious greenery

Every room is also fully air conditioned, sweeping you into the chilly weather if the cool breeze outside doesn't quite do the trick.

Furnished with either a queen-sized bed or two single twin beds, the Deluxe Room is a simple option to lodge two people, or even a third upon request for a rollaway bed.

Complete with coffee and tea-making facilities, an LCD television, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, laundry service, and turndown service, you'll have all the prime necessities at your fingertips.

The bathroom is designed with a separate shower and bath arrangement, with a full set of personal care toiletries and a vanity area when you need to get yourself together.

Becalming with floral draperies that add a hint of life into an enchanting presence, the fully-air conditioned room comes with all the same amenities as the Deluxe Room, just with extra space to make your stay that much more comfortable.

Last but certainly not least, the Foster Suite is as elegant in decor as it is rich in history. After The Lakehouse's opening in 1970, founder Colonel Foster used to reside in this suite as his private residence, that has since been named after him.

Occupying the annex block of the house wing, this suite conveys pure English charm with modern fixtures perfect for a delightful stay. Completed with a logwood fireplace and LED television set, the air-conditioned room also has a spacious bathroom that comes with a walk-in wardrobe, large vanity area, sunken bath, and shower.

Described as an authentic stay at The Lakehouse, this suite is definitely worth the bucks should you have some extra cash. Nevertheless, this suite also prohibits children from its stay, and is only meant for two adults.

When it comes to dining options, you'll be spoilt for choice with numerous options, as the resort is fully decked with a restaurant, bar, terrace, and two lounges

The Lakehouse Restaurant is the resort's residential dining spot that soaks up an 'Old World' experience with just the same amount of charm.

Open for breakfast between 7am to 10.30am, and dinner from 6.30pm to 10pm, you'll get to scarf down an elaborate semi-continental buffet from their breakfast menu. As for dinner, sets are available should you want items that hit every note, or an à la carte option if you're thinking of something specific.

Upon request by reservation, the restaurant also provides private BBQ and steamboat dinners for a minimum of two guests. If you're looking to live it up in the hills, The Lakehouse also boasts an impressive selection of wines for your pleasure. But if none of these options seem to suit your fancy, order them up to your room and enjoy them in your personal environment instead.

For lunch with a view, the Lakeview Terrace serves your daily English-styled platters and snacks while you bask in the sun for a chill afternoon.

With their lunch selections going from noon until 3pm, stick around a little while after for their tea time options from 3pm to 6pm.

If the outdoor setting isn't really your thing, take your plate into the Highland Lounge for tea by the wood-fired fireplace, with decorative features that sing into an atmosphere of 1920s English charm. As for those looking for that additional layer of leisure, loosen up at the Reading Lounge where a small collection of books await you to unwind at the fireplace. And yes — they're real books for you to read on the spot!

Though kicking back and relaxing may be the top priority for certain vacation-goers, extroverts with a packed to-do list can fulfil all their adventure cravings without needing to travel further out

The hotel provides free guided jungle walking tours through the fields of Cameron Highlands for their patrons. Held daily at 10am, the complementary jungle trekking lasts for an hour just two kilometres away from the resort. Varying in difficulty levels with steps and steepness in climbing, real action-seekers can truly test their limits.

Hiking shoes and sports shoes are required for the event, though it is not suggested for the elderly, children, unwell guests, and pregnant women. Furthermore, treks can be cancelled due to bad weather depending on the day itself.

As for those looking to add a little bit of spice to their curiosity, guests may also partake in the Mojito Making Class with the resort's own bartender, as they provide an interactive hands-on experience to make your own mojito.
