"Who Are We To Pass Judgement?" – Father Of Murder Victim Forgives Son-In-Law Over Tragedy
The police said the suspect has tested negative for drugs.
Police are still investigating the motive of a man suspected of killing his wife and two-month old son in Johor Bahru on Monday, 4 July
According to Bernama, the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court has placed the 24-year-old suspect under remand for seven days until 11 July to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The man was arrested on Monday in Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru, a few hours after his 26-year-old wife and son were found dead at the front door of their home in Kampung Bakar Batu.
He was arrested while riding a motorcycle without any clothes on, as was caught in a viral video on social media.
The suspect is being referred for mental evaluation, said Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat
He added that the suspect, a ship cleaner, tested negative for drugs and did not have a criminal record.
"Police are still investigating the motive behind the two murders, and at the same time, we will send the suspect to Permai Hospital for mental evaluation," said the police chief.
Meanwhile, the father of the 26-year-old victim, Rosman Ahmad, said he and his family held no grudges against the alleged perpetrator despite the tragedy
According to The Star, the 58-year-old said the suspect — his son-in-law — had treated his daughter and their family really well before the incident.
"We met each other frequently. The last time I saw them was around last week to discuss their wedding reception, which was supposed to take place on 24 July," he said.
His daughter and the 24-year-old suspect were said to be preparing for their wedding reception that had been postponed since solemnising their marriage last year.
"Let what has happened pass," Rosman added, after burying his daughter and grandson at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Bakar Batu on Tuesday, 5 July.
"I have forgiven him. Who are we to pass judgement on something we don't know?" he said.
