She pressed the lift buttons several times in an attempt to open the elevator door and began calling for help on her phone.

News reports revealed that Asiyah was at the airport to send a document to her niece who was travelling abroad

However, Asiyah never showed up to meet her niece, prompting her family to request assistance from airport personnel in searching for her, reported BBC.

It was also revealed that Asiyah was, in fact, calling her niece for help while she was stuck in the elevator.

According to Sin Chew Daily, when officials went to check all the lifts inside the airport and could not find Asiyah, they told her family that the lifts were fine and not broken.

Three days after the incident, however, airport staff noticed a foul odour inside one of those lifts, causing the maintenance team to inspect it.

It was at this point that they discovered Asiyah's body, which was lying at the bottom of the shaft.
