The Ministry of Health announced that MyEG's COVID-19 rapid test kit was fake news this morning

"This is fake news! Don't share and spread this false information," said MOH in a post showing the MyEG front page on its Facebook account today, 18 March at 11.30am.

However, MOH did not clarify what part of the test kit was fake news.

Despite so, MyEG was still featuring the test kits on their website

The COVID-19 rapid test kit was introduced by MyEG last Friday, 13 March, as a home-based screening kit which can produce results of whether a blood sample was positive or negative for coronavirus under 30 minutes.

They are priced on their website at RM99 per kit or RM990 for a pack of 10 kits and were up for pre-orders, as they were still pending approval from authorities.

In an update since being called out by the Ministry, MyEG has responded that they are still pending approval from local authorities as previously announced

"MyEG wishes to reiterate that, as announced previously, it is awaiting approval from local authorities for the COVID-19 rapid test kit. It is still pending certification from the Ministry of Health at this point in time," they explained on Twitter while referencing the MOH's Facebook post.

They assure that the kits are approved for use by health authorities in China and Europe, and believe that it is an accessible option to increase testing amongst Malaysians to assist in early detection and further prevent the spread of the virus.

However if for any reason should they not receive certification, they said all pre-orders on their website are fully refundable.

This is a developing story. More updates to come.
