A 17-year-old female student died of spontaneous intracranial haemorrhage caused by a ruptured blood vessel in her brain, one day before the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations

According to Sin Chew Daily, Sim Hui Yi, a student of SMK Yong Peng in Johor, succumbed to the condition yesterday, 5 December, after falling into a coma the previous day.

At 4am on Monday, 2 December, she experienced a severe headache, causing her to scream in her sleep.

Sim's cries woke her parents, who rushed her to Yong Peng Health Clinic. She was later transferred to Batu Pahat Hospital.

Her father, a 52-year-old fishmonger assistant, initially believed her headache was due to exam stress. However, doctors discovered bleeding in her brain and inquired if she had experienced a recent fall.

While her father did not observe any symptoms, her teacher revealed that Sim did not appear well at school the previous week.

"According to the doctor, the cause of my daughter's death was spontaneous intracranial haemorrhage," the father said

He shared that Sim had always been well-behaved and excelled in school. Sim's mother added that they never pressured her to perform academically, noting that Sim studied diligently of her own accord from a young age.

In her SPM trial exams, she scored 10 A's and one B.

While she was in a coma, her teacher and classmates visited her. She passed away at about 9.40am yesterday.

The funeral will be held at 11am tomorrow, 7 December, followed by a cremation ceremony at Fairy Park, Pagoh.
