A Form One student was recently injured after a classmate deliberately pulled her chair out from under her as a prank

According to the New Straits Times, the incident took place on 17 November at a school in Batu Pahat, Johor.

However, the victim's older sister, Shahirah Shah, 20, claimed that the teachers made no effort to inform the family or seek medical help after the victim complained of pain at school.

The student's family has since reached out to the English daily to demand accountability from the school and its management for its inaction.

The family has also since filed a police report about the incident on 19 November.

Shahirah alleged that one of the teachers dismissed her younger sister's injury as "fate"

"The teacher's indifference was shocking. The principal wasn't notified right away, and the teacher who commented on the injury allegedly did nothing to assist," she said.

She added that her family had to rush her 13-year-old sister to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat when the pain worsened in the evening after school.

Shahirah said medical scans showed she had a broken tailbone.

The older sister also claimed that the school rejected her family's request to move the victim's class to the ground floor for easier access

"The teacher even belittled the doctor's report, claiming her own child, a doctor, would not consider it serious," she said.

Shahirah claimed that her sister was also later removed from her class WhatsApp group, which her family has described as an act of ostracism.

"We felt she was boycotted by the school's management," she said.

Shahirah added that this was not the first such incident in schools and it should not be swept under the rug.

"Schools must prioritise safety and educate students about these risks," she said.

She called on the education authorities to help address the negligence in her sister's school, as well as to prevent similar incidents in the future.
