ChatGPT is poised to get stronger, faster, and better when GPT-5 is released later this year, says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

According to Business Insider, OpenAI's GPT-5 will be released sometime between June and September this year.

OpenAI's Enterprise customers who've had access to the GPT-5 demo claim that the new large language model (LLM) is superior to GPT-4.

When comparing GPT-4 and GPT-5 during a podcast interview with American computer scientist Lex Fridman, Altman didn't mince his words

"I think [GPT-4] kind of sucks. I expect that the delta between 5 and 4 will be the same as between 4 and 3," Altman said, comparing the improvement of GPT-4 to GPT-3.

"I think it is our job to live a few years in the future and remember that the tools we have now are going to kind of suck looking backwards at them and that’s how we make sure the future is better," Altman added.

As GPT-5 undergoes ethical and safety testing, OpenAI has offered little information on the new model

Altman has been coy about revealing too many details, so we can't tell what sort of technological advancements GPT-5 has made.

No one even knows if the new model will be named GPT-5. It looks like we'll only find out once it is released to the public.
