Netflix has announced that Squid Game will return with its long-awaited second season on 26 December (a nice way to unwind after Christmas, I guess).

Not just that, the streaming platform also revealed that the series will conclude with its third and final season in 2025!

Here's what we know about season two and three so far:

In June 2023, Netflix shared an image of the series' new cast, which featured Choi Seung-hyun (aka former member of BIGBANG, T.O.P), Won Ji-an, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Roh Jae-won, Lee Jin-uk, Jo Yu-ri, and Park Gyu-young.

The eight new cast members join Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-geun, who were all revealed during a TUDUM event just a week earlier. However, not much about the new characters has been revealed yet.

Returning from the first season are Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo.

According to the streaming platform, the second season picks up three years after Player 456, also known as Seong Gi-hun won the deadly competition. He is determined to find the people responsible for the game and put an end to their vicious sport, using the funds he won.

"Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organisation proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it," the official synopsis for season two reads.

With a season three coming our way next year, we can expect Gi-hun's fight to continue into the series finale.

Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk teased what's to come for the upcoming seasons.

"Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of season one returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn't seem to be an easy opponent this time either," he writes in a released statement.
