Getting married is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times in one's life.

From finding the perfect event space to sending out invitations to guests, newlyweds will do everything they can to make their wedding day memorable.

One Malaysian woman, 26-year-old Sofiyah, shared on her TikTok account how she made her wedding ceremony work despite it being hit by a flood.

In the photos that she shared, Sofiyah's best friends can be seen helping her get ready for her big day the night before.

She said that some of her friends had travelled from far and wide to attend her ceremony at Meru, Klang, and they were also present when she and her husband said their vows at a local mosque.

Everything went smoothly when the newlyweds were officiated at Masjid Puncak Alam, Selangor, in the morning.

However, when they arrived at their reception's location later in the afternoon, their wedding day started to take a turn.

The 26-year-old initially thought the rapidly rising water around their reception tent was due to a clogged drain.

Nonetheless, the couple decided to proceed with their wedding itinerary.

"The drain had been clogged for too long so we just continued with our photoshoot session," said Sofiyah.

The newlyweds only realised moments later that they had been hit by a flood and that the water level would not recede for the rest of the day.

Due to the rising water levels, the couple finally decided to notify their guests to not come to the wedding

The TikTok video shows Sofiyah and her husband busy texting their guests while standing on their wedding dais, while also video-calling others instead of meeting them face-to-face on their special day.

Some of Sofiyah's friends and family members who had already arrived at the reception celebrated the couple nonetheless.

Despite the flood, some guests were still seen enjoying the food and the couple even continued with their traditional wedding cake-cutting ceremony.

The couple was thankful for calling off their wedding as, a day later, Sofiyah showed that the flood had worsened around their wedding site

"Only a 4x4 vehicle could drive in this flood. You can't drive a Perodua Axia," said Sofiyah, who also attached a picture of a Myvi stranded in the flood.

Because their guests were unable to attend their reception, Sofiyah donated all of their wedding food and favours to a flood shelter in the area.

Despite the tragedy that struck their wedding, the couple remained composed and celebrated their first day as husband and wife anyway.
