Starting 1 April, all businesses and shops in Malaysia will have new opening hours

This move is part of the second phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO), as announced by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday, 30 March.

From tomorrow onwards, all supermarkets, petrol stations, sundry shops, and other essential services will open from 8am to 8pm only

Food delivery services will also operate between those hours. Meanwhile, taxis and e-hailing rides will be allowed to operate between 6am and 10pm.

"We would like to encourage people to shop online and at the same time try to avoid having any contact with delivery service people," he said during a press conference, according to The Edge.

"I want to stress that under phase two we still allow movement of people and shops are still open. We just restrict business operating hours," he added.

Under the new directive, only one person will be allowed in private vehicles, except for emergency cases

He also stressed that recreation activities, including those within gated communities, are not allowed for now.

"Flexibility is only given to those with autism and the disabled, so they can get therapy based on the advice of their doctors, but we do not allow this to be conducted in a large group," he added, according to New Straits Times.

The defence minister said that the restrictions will be different from what it is now, however, he assured that it will not be a total lockdown.

Two areas in Kluang, Johor and a condominium in KL were recently placed under Enhanced MCO for two weeks due to a high number of COVID-19 cases recorded.
