Police Say The Owner Of Lost Bag Filled With RM500,000 Has Been Identified
Finally.
On the morning of 19 March, a suitcase filled with RM500,000 banknotes was found in the parking lot of a Damansara Mall.
Now, after almost three weeks, the Selangor police department says they have identified the owner of the lost suitcase.
According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the testimony provided by a timber company director, who had presented himself to the Damansara police on 31 March, matches the leads the police obtained from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage surrounding the mall, reported FMT.
He told reporters that police obtained seven fingerprints from the suitcase.
"The police will continue our investigation and summon a few more witnesses to verify the testimony made by the claimant, including the sources of the money found in the luggage," he was quoted as saying.
However, the police have been unable to determine the man's motive for leaving the bag in the parking lot
Police also called in three more individuals to provide statements and assist in the investigations.
The three witnesses are believed to be friends of the timber company director.
Hussein said the investigation paper also requires approval from the public prosecutor's office.
"The bag will only be returned when the police are satisfied with the investigation results on ownership and the sources of the money," he added.
