In a shocking incident, a man allegedly threw his two nieces, aged three years old and 40 days old, from an apartment in Sungai Pinang, George Town

The three-year-old girl was thrown from the first floor of the apartment, causing her to suffer severe injuries to her face and a broken left leg, according to a report in Harian Metro.

The 40-day-old baby, the younger sibling of the three-year-old, was found bleeding from her head, indicating that she had been slammed onto the floor at the same residence by the man during his violent outburst.

The incident happened at about 3.40pm yesterday, 2 August.

The 29-year-old uncle later inflicted self-harm on his right wrist

Another family member, aged 31, recounted the events that unfolded.

He mentioned that prior to the incident, he heard his mother's desperate cries for help. When he went to see what was going on, he found his younger brother — the suspect — naked and bleeding profusely.

He said a neighbour helped him calm the suspect down during the incident.

"Other family members rescued both my elder siblings' children before taking them to the hospital. My brother (the suspect) claimed to hear 'whispers' before injuring both the kids," he was quoted as saying.

It is understood that both the children had been staying in the apartment, which belongs to their grandmother, because their mother is still in her confinement period after giving birth.

A screenshot from a viral video shows the victim's family member being interviewed at the scene of the incident.

The incident has been confirmed by the local authorities

"The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder," said Northeast police chief ACP Soffian Santong.

Meanwhile, the family has asked for privacy.

"We hope everyone understands and respects the family's request. The suspect is my very own brother and has been undergoing traditional treatment due to some health issues for the past two months," he said.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
