National track cyclist Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom missed out on a podium finish in the men's keirin finals at the Paris Olympics today, 11 August
The 28-year-old rider competed in the finals against the Netherlands' Harrie Lavreysen, Australia's Matthew Richardson and Matthew Glaetzer, Great Britain's Jack Carlin, as well as Japan's Shinji Nakano.
As Shah Firdaus was riding for third place, Nakano bumped into him, causing Carlin, who was behind them, to crash into them.
The three riders fell after the collision. However, Shah Firdaus managed to get up and finish the race, while Carlin and Nakano did not.
Despite finishing the race, Shah Firdaus was relegated to sixth position.
Lavreysen won gold, while Australia's Richardson and Glaetzer took the silver and bronze respectively.

Azizulhasni was Malaysia's top contender for gold at the Paris Olympics, having won a silver and bronze in the past two games.
With Shah Firdaus' efforts concluded, Malaysia's Olympic campaign ended with two bronze medals in badminton, won by Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in men's doubles and Lee Zii Jia in singles.
