Dyson's first dedicated wet floor cleaner, the WashG1, promises to redefine how we clean hard floors
With a sleek design and a range of advanced features, this machine is positioned as a powerful, hygienic solution for large spaces.
Priced at a steep RM3399, the wet floor cleaner is capable of covering up to 3,000 sq ft. It also comes with built-in technology that's capable of removing wet and dry dirt, and tough stains.
Does the Dyson WashG1 live up to the hype? I had the opportunity to test out the machine and here are my thoughts.
The Dyson WashG1 is a powerhouse when it comes to cleaning. Its combination of hydration, absorption, and extraction technologies allows it to handle both wet and dry dirt in one go
The one-litre clean water tank is impressive, covering up to 3121.5 sq ft on a single charge, making it ideal for large spaces.
The dual roller system, with its highly absorbent microfibre and pulse-modulated hydration, ensures deep and thorough cleaning, even tackling tough stains with ease.
Based on my experience, the device can clean spilt milk, orange juice, cereals, egg yolk, and even egg shells. In other words, you technically don't need to vacuum, but more on this in a bit.
You can add cleaning agents to ward off smells but ensure that the dosage is minimal. Avoid bleach because it can damage the device.
But what makes the Dyson WashG1 is its innovative separation technology. The wet floor cleaner separates debris and dirty water at the source and features a self-cleaning mode
To clean the device, simply remove the debris tray at the bottom of the roller head to remove all the gunk.
The self-cleaning mode is another major plus, purging the rollers with clean water after each use, which means less manual maintenance and more time saved. The design also minimises dirt buildup, thanks to the absence of sharp internal surfaces or crevices.
Dyson has engineered the WashG1 with in-use hydration control, offering low, medium, and high modes. This level of customisation allows you to adapt the machine's performance to specific cleaning needs, whether dealing with liquid spills or dried-on stains.
The boost mode is particularly useful for stubborn dirt, providing extra hydration when needed.
Despite its enhanced manoeuvrability, the Dyson WashG1 weighs around 5KG and can be cumbersome for those living in multistorey homes
However, thanks to Dyson's Omni-glide technology, the WashG1 features motors within each roller for smooth and effortless movement.
The low cleaner head height makes it easy to reach under furniture, and the casters provide added balance and support.
This makes the WashG1 decent for cleaning tight or awkward spaces, though you may still need to use other devices or manual methods to clean up tight corners.
Despite its advanced technology, the Dyson WashG1 is relatively bulky. This might pose a challenge for those with limited storage space
The water tank, while efficient for cleaning, adds to the overall weight and size, which might be a drawback for people seeking a more compact solution.
And then there's the concern with battery life, which can last roughly 30 minutes on a single charge. Fully charging the battery took me roughly four hours. While the WashG1's battery is designed to cover up to 3121.5 sq ft, this may not be sufficient for larger homes without recharging.
The power required for its dual rollers and advanced cleaning features can drain the battery quickly, particularly in high hydration or boost modes. This could be inconvenient for those who need to clean extensive areas in one go.
The Dyson WashG1 is undoubtedly a cutting-edge floor cleaner, delivering on its promise of powerful, hygienic cleaning for hard floors, but it's not perfect
Its customisable cleaning modes, hygienic maintenance features, and advanced manoeuvrability make it a strong contender for those looking to get their hands on a wet floor cleaner.
However, the high price point, bulkiness, and potential battery life limitations are factors to consider before making a purchase.
That said, for those who are willing to invest in a premium cleaning experience and have the storage space to accommodate it, the Dyson WashG1 could be an excellent addition to their cleaning arsenal.
