Technological development is, for the most part, meant to make our lives more convenient.

But can we ever be too sure in some instances?

Malaysian content creator and travel vlogger, Harmony Wee, recently shared an Instagram Reel of her parents, in what seems to be something incredibly relatable for Gen Z and Millennial children across the nation.

In the 15-second clip, Wee showed that her parents printed out physical copies of a roadmap during a trip she took with them to Singapore.

"I can't believe my parents still do this. They don't trust technology. They printed a Google Map from their phone," she said in a voice-over on the reel.

Stating that they printed at least four pages, Wee noted that her parents printed both two-dimensional roadmap visuals of their route, as well as satellite photographic images.

Despite their interesting methods of getting directions for their road travels, Wee gushed over how cute and invested they were to attain those routes.

"Whose parents still print Google Maps like it is 1992? [They're] so, so cute!" she wrote in the caption of her post.

Since being posted, the reel has been viewed about four million times, with many joking about how only children of Asian parents can relate to this

Some Instagram users couldn't help but crack some jokes, with one person even saying that it was a pretty major flex that Wee's parents printed their map in colour.

"Maybe they don't trust Singapore," one user jokingly said in reference to why they may have printed the map instead.

However, one user commented how it didn't really seem to make sense that Wee's parents don't trust navigation systems, as they used the same technology to print their map.

Nevertheless, a multitude of people also mentioned how practical it was for Wee's parents to come prepared

One user praised Wee's parents for smart thinking in that situation, saying that one can be majorly inconvenienced if something were to happen to their phone while on the drive.

"Well, I don't know, but there are some roads where the Internet is dead and the GPS doesn't refresh, so you gotta download it beforehand. If you don't know how, printing is the next option," stated another user.

Another person opined that Wee's parents may have wanted a more realistic experience while on their journey, saying that the aspects of feeling, touching, negotiating, and most importantly, talking, helps strengthen bonds.

On the other hand, one user stated, based on his personal experience and relating it to Wee's parents, it would make sense why they'd print their map for their journey.

And despite the diverging opinions on the matter, Wee eventually revealed how their GPS system did die during the drive when one person commented how that may have been a possibility.

"It actually did die! Haha, I wouldn't have thought ahead like them," she commented.
