Four Orang Asli have graduated from Malaysia Airlines' training academy, becoming the airline's first Indigenous cabin crew members
Amyisha Nurshahira Rosman and Sarah Elissa Tang Aman are from Suku Jakun and Suku Temuan, respectively, while Veena Angelina Bte Jincis and Alzariza Alwi are of Suku Semai descent.
They are among 56 cabin crew members who recently graduated from a rigorous three-month training programme at the Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) Academy.
The four began serving at the airline on 7 May and recently celebrated their graduation, with the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) director-general Datuk Hajah Sapiah Mohd Nor in attendance.
In a statement to SAYS, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said MAG welcomed the first batch of cabin crew from the Orang Asli community into MAB.
"This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within our workforce, ensuring equal opportunities for all, regardless of their background," he said.
In December last year, MAB collaborated with JAKOA on an outreach programme in Pahang, Perak, and Johor to recruit Orang Asli
The airline will also participate in a special career fair for Orang Asli in August as part of its cabin crew and cadet pilot outreach programme.
"The airline also continues to ramp up efforts to recruit international cabin crew to promote diversity and personalise its service for its global customers.
"This includes recruitment of the cabin crew from key markets such as India, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia," the statement read.
