Microsoft has signalled its intent to edge out Apple and Google after it announced personal computers (PCs) powered by artificial intelligence (AI)

Microsoft chief executive officer Satya Nadella said the AI-powered PCs will be powered by Copilot+, a chatbot developed by the company.

He announced this during an event at Microsoft's campus in Washington, the US on 20 May 2024.

Nadella said that people would be able to purchase the Copilot+ PCs from manufacturers including Acer 2353.TW and Asustek Computer 2357.TW.

The Copilot+ PCs include a feature called 'Recall' and will be able to handle more AI-related tasks without relying on cloud data centres too much

'Recall' is capable of tracking everything that its user does on the PC.

From browsing websites to voice chats, it will create a history that is then stored on the device itself.

This feature will allow the AI-powered PC users to quickly search for something that they had done weeks or months before.

Microsoft expects to sell around 50 million of the Copilot+ PCs in 2025

The tech giant claims that the Copilot+ PCs are up to 20 times more powerful and up to 100 times as efficient for running AI workloads.

Microsoft's executive vice president and consumer chief marketing officer Yusuf Mehdi, said PCs with the fastest AI assistants will be in demand from 2025 onwards.

“These experiences come to life on a set of thin, light and beautiful devices from Microsoft Surface and our OEM partners Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung, with availability starting on June 18,” he said, according to MenaFN.

The Copilot+ PCs will be priced at USD1,000 (RM4,700).
