PE Teacher Wins Hearts For Pushing Student In Wheelchair During 4KM Run In Kedah
So wholesome! <3
A Physical Education (PE) teacher has won netizens' hearts for pushing a student in a wheelchair throughout a 4km running event in Kedah
Mohd Fairus Junoh@Ismail, 39, went viral after a TikTok video showed him pushing Muhammad Adam Rizqi Muhamad Shakirin, 8, during the run organised by SK Padang Terap on Sunday, 23 February.
Mohd Fairus is a teacher in the Integrated Special Child Education Programme (PPKI) at the school in Kuala Nerang, while Muhammad Adam is a special needs student with cerebral palsy, reported Harian Metro.
The teacher was determined to fulfil Muhammad Adam's wish of joining his peers after noticing him looking wistful during training sessions leading up to the event.
He asked the student if he wanted to join the run, and when he said yes, Mohd Fairus sought permission from his mother before pushing him in a wheelchair throughout the race.
Muhammad Adam's mother, Nor Adila Yaacob, 31, expressed her gratitude and admiration for the teacher's efforts, adding that her son had never taken part in any sports event before
"I was happy to see him being able to participate [in the run] with the help of his teacher," she told Harian Metro.
Nor Adila was the one who recorded the viral video and posted it on her TikTok account.
Mohd Fairus described the experience as heartwarming, especially after seeing Muhammad Adam's joy and hearing him excitedly tell his friends how he overtook them during the race
"Adam is a quiet student, but his smile seems different the day after the run.
"As a teacher, I truly understand and am touched every time I see Adam and other special needs students. That's why I not only teach but also try to engage with them because I want to 'walk in their shoes'," he said.
In response to the positive reactions to the video, Mohd Fairus thanked netizens for their well-wishes and prayers.
"I am sure that among those who commented, there are parents of special needs children. So, they can certainly understand their children's desires, just like Muhammad Adam's," said the teacher, who has been an educator for 13 years and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education.
