Japanese Influencer Mistakenly Cooks Ramen With Cendol & Malaysians Are So Amused
From dessert to disaster. (ᵕ—ᴗ—)
A Japanese content creator based in Malaysia has gone viral after sharing a video where she prepares a bowl of ramen using cendol
In a 41-second video posted on TikTok on Tuesday, 18 June, Sora Fula shows the process of her shopping for ingredients, cooking the ramen, and tasting it.
"Malaysia, apa ini (what is this)?" asks Sora as she begins the video, before stating, "Saya nak cuba Malaysia ramen (I want to try Malaysian ramen)."
She purchases a packet of cendol at a hypermarket before returning home to cook it with aromatics and ramen soup stock.
She calls the cendol "noodles" in the video as she cooks it in the broth with beansprouts.
Cendol refers to both the coconut shaved ice dessert and the main ingredient of the local delicacy that is made from pandan-flavoured rice flour jellies.
Sora appears puzzled by her creation and wonders out loud whether she "boiled [the cendol] too much"
"The 'noodles' are very soft," she says in Japanese.
The content creator concludes the video by asking her followers what the correct way to eat cendol is.
Speaking to SAYS, Sora said the ramen tasted sweet.
"The taste was a mixture of soy sauce and garlic plus sweet noodles. I think I boiled it too much as it was soft," she said when contacted.
At the time of writing, the video has garnered over 1.8 million views on TikTok
Thousands of netizens were amused by Sora's blunder, with many commenting that it was the first time they had seen cendol being mistaken as noodles.
"It is my first time seeing cendol cooked in a soup with beansprouts," wrote a TikTok user, while another added, "That is cendol, sis! No one has ever prepared it in a soup."
"It's painful to watch [this video]," a netizen said in jest.
" [You have] breached the law of cendol. I pity that cendol as it has always been in the cold, not in the heat," joked another person.
