The suspects allegedly purchased their fake MyKad for around RM350 to RM500 each.
A Filipino couple was arrested for using fake identification cards to work in Malaysia for more than 10 years during an operation in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, yesterday, 13 March
According to Harian Metro, the National Registration Department (JPN) stated that the husband and wife are believed to have entered Malaysia through Johor Bahru in 2006.
"Both suspects, who are from the Philippines, are believed to have purchased the fake identity cards for around RM350 to RM500.
"The couple used these fake identity cards to seek employment [in Malaysia]. They have previously worked at a soap factory in Johor and are currently working as security guards," JPN told the Malay daily.
It is understood that the couple has five children, all of whom are Filipino citizens aged between 18 and 33
JPN said the operation was conducted at 6pm on Wednesday based on intelligence gathered by its enforcement division.
"Both suspects can be charged under Section 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990. If found guilty, they could be sentenced to imprisonment for up to three years or fined up to RM20,000, or both.
"The case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action," JPN said.
